Evergreen is a place where city and tranquil mountain living come together. Cradled in the Rocky Mountains at 7,500 feet and just 30 miles west of Denver, the Evergreen area encompasses 130 square miles of magnificent forest, streams, valleys and meadows. Sprawling from the flanks of 14,260 foot Mt. Evans on the West, to the edge of the high plains on the East, this former Ute, Cheyenne and Arapaho hunting ground was named for the huge and plentiful pine, spruce and fir trees that inhabit the area. The first Colorado blue spruce was discovered within sight of our office. We are the home of the 1200 head Mt. Evans elk herd which can be seen grazing around town. With brilliant year round sunshine, Evergreen offers a wealth of recreational activities including hiking, backpacking, mountain biking, golf and excellent fishing. Winter time activities include ice skating on Evergreen Lake, snow shoeing, cross country skiing, and several world class ski resorts within one hours drive. Our proximity to Denver also offers convenient access to international museum exhibits, national sports events, and exceptional dining. For more information on the Evergreen area call the Evergreen Chamber of Commerce at (303) 674-3412, or log on at: http://www.evergreenchamber.org
